LONDON, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Welsh players David John and Jamie Jones have been banned for corrupt behaviors, the sport's world governing body WPBSA announced on Wednesday.

David John, whose career high ranking was world number 68, will serve a suspension of five years and seven months, while Jamie Jones, who was ranked 39th in the world when he was charged, has been given a one-year ban.

Jones was cleared of match-fixing but admitted failing to report a corrupt approach. He was suspended last October after being accused of being part of a plan to fix a match between John and Graeme Dott.

John had previously admitted to fixing his matches against Dott played on September 29, 2016 and against Joe Perry played on January 24, 2017, and failing to cooperate with the WPBSA investigation.

Jason Ferguson, the WPBSA Chairman said: "In the case of David John, this is a clear message that there is no place for match fixing in snooker. However, this case also highlights the importance of professional sportsman understanding their responsibilities to report anything relating to match fixing.

"Jamie Jones is a well-respected professional snooker player and I have no doubt that he has never fixed the outcome of a match he was involved in. It is a real shame to see that this talented player has fallen foul of failing to report his direct knowledge of an arrangement to fix a match."

Both players have until February 20th, 2019 to appeal the decisions of the WPBSA Disciplinary Committee.
