NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks traded sharply higher on Friday after Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said the central bank will be patient about rate hikes.

The Dow and S&P 500 rose 3.35 percent while the Nasdaq surged 4.16 percent.
