ISLAMABAD, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa Friday confirmed death sentences to 11 hardcore terrorists for their involvement in heinous offenses related to terrorism in the country, the military said.

The Inter-Services Public Relations, the media wing of Pakistani army, said in a statement that 22 convicts have also been awarded imprisonment by the military courts.

They were involved in killing of 26 persons including a civilian and 25 security personnel and injuring 22 others, it said, adding that arms and explosives were also recovered from their possession.

The military said the convicts were tried by special military courts where they confessed their crimes. They belonged to proscribed organizations.

The military courts were set up for a period of two years after the terrorist attack on an army school in December 2014 for the speedy trial of the terrorism-related accused. Nearly 150 people, including 132 children, were killed in the attack.

In March 2017, the Pakistani parliament passed a special bill to give a two-year extension to the military courts. Enditem
