TOKYO, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares rose Wednesday morning, tracking strong U.S. stocks overnight as well as robust earnings reports of major Japanese companies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 120.60 points, or 0.53 percent, from Tuesday to 22,674.32.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 9.93 points, or 0.57 percent, at 1,763.22.

Gainers were led by iron and steel, miscellaneous product and nonferrous metal issues.
