The Guomao Building, completed in 1985, is among Shenzhen's earliest skyscrapers. Within four decades since China undertook the "reform and opening-up" policy, Shenzhen has transformed itself from a small farming town into a booming modern metropolis. As China's first special economic zone, the city has succeeded in developmental achievements as it grows rapidly at the outpost of the country's economic reform. Today's Shenzhen is at first hand a city of architectural and engineering wonders. Behind its rising skyline lie the efforts of generations of architects, designers and construction workers. (Xinhua)
