YANGON, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- A total of 789 people have been killed and 3,565 others injured in traffic accidents in Myanmar's Mandalay region in 2017, local media 7Day Daily reported Saturday.

According to the traffic police, about 2,233 traffic accidents occurred in the region last year.

Reckless driving is the main cause of road accidents especially bike accidents in the region.

Out of the districts in Mandalay region, Mandalay district topped the lists with most fatalities in the road accidents.

There were about 2,198 road crashes killing 685 people in Mandalay in 2016.

The authorities are working on reduction of such traffic accidents for the public safety.
