ADDIS ABABA, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and members of the Ethiopian defense forces are set to cast their ballots on Tuesday as the country awaits the results of the recent general election.
In a statement issued Monday, the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said that special arrangements have been made to ensure the participation of IDPs and members of the defense force, with voting to be held Tuesday across special polling stations established at IDP and military camps.
NEBE is currently in the process of verifying the results, examining the audited results, entering the verified results into the database, and organizing and hearing testimonials concerning complaints, according to the statement.
Election results that have passed the aforementioned process will be made public after the board's decision and approval, said NEBE.
On June 1, Ethiopia held its seventh general election, with over 54 million eligible voters to elect representatives for the House of Peoples' Representatives (HoPR), the lower chamber of the Ethiopian parliament, as well as members of various regional state councils.
Data from NEBE showed that a total of 42 political parties are contesting in the general election, fielding more than 10,000 candidates under their banners to secure seats in the HoPR and regional legislatures, alongside independent contestants. ■
